BVB and HESS sign a contract for eight lighTrams®

Basel Transport Services (BVB) and HESS have signed a contract for the acquisition of eight double-articulated e-buses. The vehicles are to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022.

BVB and HESS, the Swiss bus manufacturer based in the canton of Solothurn, yesterday signed a contract for the delivery of eight lighTram® 25 OPP double-articulated e-buses. HESS was awarded the contract for the double articulated e-buses in May after successfully participating in the public tender (see press release from 18 May 2021). The double-articulated e-buses are around 25 metres long and therefore longer than articulated buses. They are likely to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022 and brought into operation after a test phase on bus line number 50 between the SBB station and EuroAirport.

Bruno Stehrenberger, BVB Director, is excited about the contract: “It is an important step towards a more environmentally friendly, quieter and more modern bus fleet. We’re delighted that double articulated buses will become part of our fleet in the future.” Alex Naef, CEO of HESS, added: “We are incredibly pleased that we can deploy our competences in the area of electric buses in Basel.”
