HESS is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract to supply the new trolleybuses to the Biel transport authority.
The basic delivery comprises four solo battery trolleybuses (lighTram® 12 DC) and 14 articulated battery trolleybuses (lighTram® 19 DC). In addition, the transport company can order up to 50 more battery trolleybuses to ensure the complete electrification of the bus fleet in Biel/Bienne by the 2030s.
Thanks to the battery trolleybuses, only a few extensions to the overhead line network will be required to electrify the entire local transport network in Biel by the end of 2027. The latest generation of lighTram® 12 DC and lighTram® 19 DC is equipped with dynamic charging technology. This enables the batteries to be recharged during the journey and ensures that sufficient energy is available for sections without overhead contact lines.
