lighTram® 25 – A NEW MODE OF TRANSIT

The lighTram® 25 from HESS represents the future of transport in Australian cities. Offering bus operators, the high passenger capacity of a tram or light rail, and the manoeuvrability and flexibility associated with an articulated bus.

First introduced on the streets of Brisbane in April 2022, the lighTram25® is Australia’s first ever ADR approved Right Hand Drive, bi-articulated electric vehicle. Capable of carrying up to 180 passengers, the vehicles are zero-emission, flexible, cost-effective and ready to be implemented today.

A centerpiece for any Bus Rapid Transit solution and already transforming the way people move across Brisbane, the lighTram® 25 can future-proof existing bus routes while providing a new level of passenger experience, accessibility and comfort.

BRISBANE METRO

The Brisbane Metro is a transformative, high-frequency public bus rapid transit (BRT) system that links the city to the suburbs - alleviating congestion by utilising Brisbane’s existing busways.

Following the success of the HESS’ Pilot Metro and five years of collaboration with our partners, Brisbane City Council, the Brisbane Metro was fully operational from January 2025 and in less than 12 months, more than 5 million passengers have travelled on the M1 and M2 lines. Brisbane Metro is expected to provide up to 30 million additional seats annually and has already reduced congestion on Victoria Bridge has dropped by 30 per cent.

A game-changer for the city, HESS' lighTram® 25 is delivering the high-frequency, high-capacity service that Brisbane needs as it continues to grow today, during the 2032 Games and beyond.
