Since December, the first electric articulated buses lighTram® 19 OPP by HESS have been operating in regular service on Line 5 of TPL (Trasporti Pubblici Luganesi). This marks the arrival of our proven e-bus technology in daily operation in Ticino – a region known for its demanding topography, heavy traffic volumes and high expectations in terms of operational reliability.
Line 5 is one of the most important transport corridors in the Lugano region, carrying over 2.3 million passengers every year. The battery-electric eBuses in service combine high passenger capacity with quiet operation and locally emission-free mobility. Thanks to efficient battery technology and fast charging at the terminal stops, the vehicles ensure reliable operation throughout the entire service day, without compromising on comfort or availability.
For HESS, this project represents far more than another vehicle delivery. It symbolises our commitment not only to developing mobility solutions, but to making them work reliably in real-world operation. We would like to thank TPL for their trust and are proud that the lighTram® is now also contributing in Ticino to quieter, cleaner and more sustainable public transport.
