From December 2024, Stadtbus Winterthur will bring trolleybuses to line 5! Preparations are already underway and everything should be ready in time for the 2024/2025 timetable change. HESS will deliver a total of ten new lighTram® 19 DC trolleybuses to Winterthur by next year.
The electrification will make it possible to replace seven diesel buses with environmentally friendly options and save up to 900 tonnes of CO2 per year - the equivalent of the consumption of an average car on 9500 journeys from Winterthur to Geneva! The new articulated trolleybuses from HESS use the innovative "Dynamic Charging" technology to run almost half of line 5 without overhead lines.The electrification of Line 7 is planned for the end of 2026, which will create a further three kilometres of new overhead lines and make the transport of 90% of passengers climate-neutral.
