HESS delivers more trolleybuses to Salzburg

HESS trolleybuses have been reliably running on lines in Salzburg for three years. The partnership has been extremely successful so far and is now being expanded through further deliveries.

In 2019, Salzburg AG called up the first 15 vehicles under a framework agreement with HESS. These lighTram® 19 DC vehicles were introduced into the Salzburg trolleybus fleet in 2019 and 2020. Another fourteen such trolleybuses were supplied to Austria from Switzerland in mid-2021 and early 2022.

The batteries charge on the overhead line while the buses are in operation, so they can also travel longer sections without the need for overhead lines. The battery is charged during the journey using the “dynamic charging” technology developed by HESS. This ensures that no charging time is lost and the energy storage system can be designed in a resource-efficient manner. As well as having an attractive design, the lighTram® 19 DC also has plenty of space so that passengers can enjoy a pleasant journey.

Salzburg AG recently ordered a further 13 vehicles under the framework agreement for the years 2023 and 2024. This will increase the size of the HESS fleet in Salzburg to 42 vehicles. The order covers not only the delivery of vehicles but also maintenance by HESS in Salzburg.
